Title: Analysis of visual interpretations made by students and AI based on predefined text
Keywords: text, visual interpretation, team task, AI, creativity, Desi

Abstract: This paper presents a team task assigned to third-year students in the specialty ‘Engineering Design’ at the Technical University of Sofia in the discipline ‘Heuristics in Design’. Its essence is related to eidetic intuition, in which a transition is made from the concept to the sensory image, which is determined by their interrelationship. A text is assigned, on which a visual interpretation has to be made with author's illustrations, presented through design sketches. A slogan is being invented for each illustration. In 2024, the task was expanded, and the assignment stated that the students have to present both their own author’s solutions and those generated by AI. Then they analyse both types of visual interpretation – their own and those generated by AI. The goal of the task is to develop teamwork skills, to test the capabilities of AI as another tool in solving creative tasks, which, however, cannot and should not be used as a substitute for human creativity.
