Title: Design and Implementation of a Compact DALI Slave Module with Integrated AC-DC Supply for Dimmable LED Drivers
Keywords: DALI protocol, LED drivers, PWM dimming

Abstract: This paper presents the design and practical realization of a compact DALI slave module featuring an integrated low-power AC-DC converter, developed to enable retrofit integration of PWM - or analog-dimmable LED drivers into DALI-based lighting systems. The proposed module employs a 32-bit Arm Cortex M0+ microcontroller to decode DALI commands and generate two independent PWM signals, which can also be converted to analog 0-10 V outputs through dedicated demodulation circuits. A non-isolated buck converter is integrated on the same PCB to supply the control circuitry directly from the AC line, thereby eliminating the need for external auxiliary power sources. With dimensions of only 21 × 42 mm and a thickness of 9 mm, the realized prototype module offers a highly compact solution suitable for space-constrained luminaire housings and retrofit installations.
