Title: Mechanical Loss Determination for High Speed Induction Motor Drives Based on Mechanical Oscillation Analysis
Keywords: induction motor, mechanical loss, mechanical oscillation analysis, speed measurement

Abstract: This paper presents an approach for determining the speed of an electric motor through its mechanical oscillations measured with an electret microphone. The described approach has been applied to measure the speed of rotation while the motor is coasting to a stop and to obtain the mechanical and ventilation losses of the motor during its diagnostics. The method of speed measurement described in the paper shows excellent results at high speeds of rotation. Successful measurements have been carried out on an induction motor for speeds up to 28000 min-1.
