Title: Influence of Small Nuclear Power Plants in Smart Grids Keywords: communication architecture, decentralized control, power systems, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), smart gridsAbstract: This paper explores the integration of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) into smart grid infrastructures and the resulting opportunities and challenges. The study highlights the advantages of SMRs, such as improved energy stability, reduced emissions, and enhanced flexibility in power distribution. A comprehensive communication network architecture is proposed, combining centralized and decentralized approaches to improve efficiency, scalability, and cybersecurity. Emphasis is placed on the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in optimizing power flow management, enabling predictive control and dynamic system adaptation. The proposed design leverages embedded systems, smart meters, and modern communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet, SD, SOME/IP) to build a future-proof grid architecture. The paper concludes that SMR-based smart grids are a viable path toward sustainable and resilient energy systems, especially in the context of increasing energy demands and decentralized generation.
