Title: The GREENBEAT project: Optimizing Key Performance Indicators for Sustainable Excellence
Keywords: European Green Deal, Key Performance Indicators, Research and Innovation strategy, Sustainable Future Com munication Networks

Abstract: The greater mission of the project GREENBEAT is to raise awareness in the higher education sector of the importance of adopting and training skills for environmentally conscious and sustainable research and innovation approaches. The focus research area of GREENBEAT is Sustainable Future Communication Networks and Technologies, with an emphasis on networks and technologies for connecting intelligence and trustworthiness. One of the prerequisites to achieve this is to enlighten and engage the higher education sector on the paramount importance of integrating environmentally conscious and sustainable practices into research and innovation. With a strong emphasis on networks and technologies that bridge intelligence with trustworthiness, GREENBEAT aligns with the European Green Deal's vision of a resource-efficient, competitive economy, aiming for zero net emissions by 2050. This paper illustrates the approach for the definition of a set of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact towards the implementation of the project's Research and Innovation (R&I) strategy. The selection of KPIs is done in such a way to allow an easy estimation of the progress and performance of the R&I for the achievement of its goals and objectives. In this context, the KPIs are related to the implementation of the major goals of the joint R&I strategy and reflect its outcomes.
