Abstract: This paper presents a mathematical model describing the corrosion behaviour of aluminium alloys EN AW-2011 and EN AW-2024 at different medium parameters – in 1 and 3% NaCl in the absence and in the presence of 0.1 M H2 SO4 at different medium pH values and at different immersion periods. The influence of chloride and sulphate ions in solution on the corrosion rate of the studied alloys was investigated. The results show that the addition of sulphate ions to 1 and 3% NaCl, at pH 1 and 2, affects differently the corrosion behavior of the two alloys studied. In EN AW-2011, the addition of sulphate ions to the corrosion medium, at pH 1 and 2, significantly reduced the corrosion of the alloy, while in EN AW-2024, sulphate ions accelerated the failure of the alloy except at pH 1 in 3% NaCl.
