Title: Aerial Base Station Positioning Evaluation for UAV-assisted Het-Nets
Keywords: Het-Nets, resource allocation, UAV placement, UAV-assisted networks, user association

Abstract: The requirements presented by the new application scenarios and use-cases for modern wireless networks have led to the increasingly heterogeneous types of communication nodes with various density. The implementation of unmanned aerial vechile (UAV) based aerial base stations (ABSs) into the current and upcoming heterogenous networks (Het-Nets) has a growing importance for research in the field. Determining the positioning of the ABS is a crucial aspect in UAV-assisted networks. This paper presents an evaluation of the throughput for different positions (random, center, and the four edges of the UAV operational region) for the ABS within an UAV-assisted Het-Net. Based on the system throughput, the best ABS position is empirically determined and the gain provided by the ABS in comparison to the traditional Het-Net, is assessed. System throughput of up to 190 Mbps is achieved, which is nearly 3 times higher than that in the alternative case.
