Title: Novel cooling technique for operation of quasi four level solid state laser
Keywords: laser, Yb3:Y2O3, Yb3:Sc2O3 ceramics at cryogenic temperature

Abstract: We report a novel cooling technique for solid-state laser, which provides opportunity for liquid nitrogen temperature. Thecooling holder does not have any windows on the laser beam path in order to minimize dispersion-related effects andnonlinear absorption under femtosecond laser operation. cw laser oscillation of 4% Yb3t.doped Y203 ceramics at 120 Ktemperature and 450 mW output power at 1030 nm, was obtained.Keyword: femtosecond laser systems, ceramic lasers. 1. INTRODUCTIONThe study of spectroscopic and thermo-opticalproperties of new laser materials, such as Yb3:Y2O3, Yb3:Sc2O3 ceramics at cryogenic temperatures will give us better understanding of laser operation. Because of quasi-four level laser systems, lasing efficiency in such active mediacould be much higher at liquid nitrogen temperature. That ispopulation of low lever of lasing would be decreased. In 1150 addition, the optical system has to be concerned about dispersion control, damage, and nonlinear effect for fs laser
