Title: Traffic Research on а Light Regulated Junction in the City of Sofia
Keywords:

Abstract: The research presented in this publication aims to establish values of indicators of transport flows that influence their passage through a light-regulated intersection. The object of research is an extremely busy intersection in the city of Sofia. It is located in the Studentski Grad neighborhood next to one of the largest universities in the Republic of Bulgaria. After analyzing the data, an optimization was carried out according to a previously developed algorithm, which gives values for the duration of the green signals in the individual phases, which are based on the achieved minimum waiting time for all vehicles at the intersection. The algorithm uses the input information about the intensity for each of the phases, the length of the queues and the throughput in the individual traffic lanes. The obtained results show that the green signal times used are optimal, which suggests further research to achieve the sought-after benefits of reducing traffic flows delays.
