Title: Load Characteristics of Low Power Step-Down Transformer in Liquid Nitrogen
Keywords: cryogenics, electric loss, energy efficiency, liquid nitrogen, transformer efficiency

Abstract: In this paper testing of a low power transformer in liquid nitrogen is presented. Transformer is cooled to 77 Kin order to reduce electric losses and increase efficiency and rated power. A center tapped step-down transformer is tested. Transformer rated parameters at room temperature are U1= 220 V, U2 =6 V, 12 =500mA. The transformer load characteristics are tested at room temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature environment. Measured results for V-A characteristics for variable load, electric power loss and efficiency are obtained and discussed.
