Abstract: A non-modifiedandmodifiedwithNaOHandethylenediamineultrafiltrationmembranespreparedfrom ANcopolymerhavebeenusedascarriersfortheimmobilizationofhorseradishperoxidase(HRP)enzyme. The amountofboundproteinontothemembranesandtheactivityoftheimmobilizedenzymehavebeen investigatedaswellasthepHandthermaloptimum,andthethermalstabilityofthefreeandimmobilized HRP.Theexperimentshaveprovedthatthemodifiedmembraneisabettersupportfortheimmobilization of HRPenzyme.Thelatterhasshownagreaterthermalstabilitythanthefreeenzyme. A possibleapplicationhasbeenstudiedforreducingphenolconcentrationinwatersolutionsthrough oxidationofphenolbyhydrogenperoxide,inthepresenceoffreeandimmobilizedHRPenzymeon modifiedANcopolymermembranes.Ahigherdegreeofthephenoloxidationhasbeenobservedinthe presenceoftheimmobilizedenzyme.Atotalremovalofphenolhasbeenachievedinthepresenceof immobilizedHRPatconcentrationofthehydrogenperoxide0.5mmolL−1 and concentrationofthephenol in themodelsolutionswithintheinterval5–40mgL−1.
