Title: Depth Field Reconstruction by Shadow Tomography for Small Digital Microscope

Abstract: Depth and distance estimations are of paramount importance in many 2D and 3D vision applications. This paper proposes depth field reconstruction method for small digital microscopes based on optical shadow tomography. Multiple optical images from a single viewpoint and many different lighting directions are used in shadow tomography method. Numerical reconstruction algorithm for shadow tomography method is proposed. Reconstruction algorithm is relatively simple, it is suitable for automatic 2D/2.5D/3D geometric model building over reconstructed image results. The method is applicable for real time video reconstruction and also useful for small wearable and portable devises.
